Turn off AEC on the Yealink CM50
Before using a Yealink CM50 with a Pleneo device hub, turn off the CM50’s echo cancellation (AEC).
Overview
The Pleneo device hub handles echo cancellation for the room and manages the room’s audio as a single system, which is what keeps performance consistent from room to room. If the CM50 runs its own AEC as well, the two interfere with each other, and results become unpredictable, so Pleneo doesn’t support running AEC on both devices.
Turn off the AEC by loading a configuration file onto the CM50 using Yealink RoomDesigner. The same file also turns off the CM50’s noise reduction (NR) and parametric EQ (PEQ), which the Pleneo device hub also handles.
What you need
A Windows PC with Yealink RoomDesigner installed, on the same network as the CM50. Download it from Yealink Support
The CM50 powered on and connected to the network. If the microphone has been used before, factory reset it first, as old settings can conflict with the Pleneo device hub
The Pleneo configuration file
The CM50 password [to confirm: set in RoomDesigner under Device Manager → Security, and entered in the Pleneo device hub setup wizard]
Match your firmware to the software version. Each RoomDesigner version requires a specific CM50 firmware version. Open the version you’re downloading on the Yealink support page and check the firmware table before you start. A mismatch will stop the configuration from applying correctly.
Steps
Open Yealink RoomDesigner and create a new project.
Select New at the top right to create a room, name it, and confirm.
When the Room Setup Wizard appears, select Exit and confirm. You don’t need the wizard; this gives you a blank room.
Drag the CM50 from the Audio list onto the canvas.
Double-click the CM50 to open its audio flow, then select Device Settings.
Under Backup, select Import and choose the
CM50-AEC-NR-PEQ-off.binfile. “Import successfully” confirms it has loaded, and AEC, NR, and PEQ now appear greyed out in the audio flow.Bind to your CM50. Check that the correct network interface is selected in RoomDesigner, then select your CM50 from the online devices and choose Assign. If your CM50 isn’t listed, the network interface is usually the reason.
Select Deploy, then enter Run Mode to apply the configuration to the microphone. The task shows “Successful” when it’s done.
Go back to the Pleneo device hub setup wizard and select I’ve turned off AEC. It scans for the CM50 and connects to it.
Make a test call and have both ends talk at the same time. The far end should hear you clearly, with no echo or clipped words.
